EAF Executive Committee Meeting Minutes April 2009

Minutes of meetings of the Executive Committee and Ethiopian Higher Ed Partners held on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 10:30 AM at the Home of Asrat and Jember in Canton Michigan.  

Present: Executive Committee: Teshome Wagaw (Chair), Tsehai T. Tsadik, Sisay Asefa, Asrat Tessema, Jember Bekele, Wongelawit Teferra, Tezera Haile, Doree and Assefa Mehretu.

Guests: Professor Mary Sarri and Professor Kelly Askew, University of Michigan

1. Minutes of meetings of the Executive Committee and Ethiopian Higher Ed Partners held on February 14, 2009 at 1:00 PM the home Teshome and Tseahi in Ann Arbor. Motion Sisay, second Wongel.  Approved.

2. Agenda:    The agenda for the joint meeting was distributed

3. Reports

a. Teshome Wagaw and Sisay Asefa will attend the AAU College of Education Conference in Addis in July 2009.    

b. Asrat reported on EAF finances.  He indicated that EAF has $81,354 in its capital funds.  EAF has spent a total of $21,505 for its programs.

5. AAU College of Education Higher Ed Conference: EAF Roundtable
The EAF will have a roundtable at the conference with the following participants (not all confirmed): Teshome Wagaw, Sisay Asefa, Ayalew Kanno, and Yohannes Kinfu.  It was suggested that only people who have some knowledge about the working of higher education and those who have some experience in Ethiopian universities should be featured as participants on the panel.  It was suggested that Teshome and Sisay set the tone for the discussion.  TheEAF panel was endorsed.

6. Progress on Papers on Higher Education
Tabled.

7. Draft Protocol on Ethiopian/Michigan Universities Partnership drafted by David Wiley
The draft protocol has been sent to AAU higher administration.  There have been indications that Dr. Tisge, the Vice President has seen the document and is positively inclined.  Teshome, Sisay and Assefa would follow up with formal review and endorsement by AAU during their summer visits in Addis. 

8. EAF Fellowship money
Tabled.

    EAF Chair Teshome thanked the hosts Jember and Asrat for the wonderful luncheon reception and meeting and adjourned the meeting at 12:30 PM.
